Loc Hi Vu is currently a Jewelry Designer based in New York City. He is also currently a Junior at Pratt Institute, New York City, with a BFA in Visual Arts, concentrating on Jewelry Design.
He was raised in Vietnam and as a student of sciences, visual arts had never been on his mind until a random encounter with a small art gallery, located in a small alley in Ho Chi Minh City, owned by an old French couple. This encounter sparked his love for fine arts and started to take painting classes. He then moved to the US at the age of 15 where he continued his classical training. Living in a new country, he had many opportunities to enrich his fine arts education through multiple media and platforms, but it was not until his Senior year of high school that he started developing his love for jewelry, with a focus on High Jewelry.
Experiencing multiple cultural changes and social interaction, his works are a melting pot of culture between East and West. With the majority of his philosophy and beliefs being Humanism-based, his thought process is constantly taking humans as the focal point, both visually and mentally. Loc Hi’s foundation jewelry is built upon traditional bench jeweler skills, but as a believer in automation and modernization, he always utilized technology, such as 3D printing or sculpting software, in his workflow.
